GREAT NEWS: The Hunger Games earned $68.3 million on its opening day.; 5th Best opening day of all time

Hard-core Hunger Gamers can now loosen their corsets and sigh. Because our movie, The Hunger Games, earned a whopping $68.3 million domestically on its opening day, which is the 5th best movie opening day of all time and also the best opening day for a non-sequel movie EVER. Read the report from The Hollywood Reporter below:
Friday's performance, which included $19.7 million in Thursday midnight runs, put Hunger Games in the same territory as the Harry Potter and Twilight film series. The final Harry Potter pic holds the record for best opening day gross ($91.1 million), followed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($72.7 million), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 ($71.6 million), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($68.5 million) and now Hunger Games.
Part of the movie's strength is that it is appealing to males as well as females, unlike the femme-heavy Twilight franchise, another blockbuster film property based on a young adult book series. Males made up 39 percent of Hunger Games' Friday night audience, while females made 61 percent. It also is playing evenly in terms of age, another boost.
The Hunger Games is off to an excellent start! These early figures for the first film only imply how even bigger the sequels, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, are going to be. Congratulations to Suzanne Collins, Gary Ross, the cast and crew, and Lionsgate for the success.  And thanks to all Hunger Gamers for making it happen. The odds are truly in our favor.
