NEWS: 'The Hunger Games' Prequel titled 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' To Be Released in May 2020, Official Cover Revealed

Scholastic Inc. has officially released the title, release date and the official cover for Suzanne Collins' upcoming Hunger Games prequel novel.

Titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the new Hunger Games prequel book is slated to be released in bookstores worldwide on May 19, 2020. The novel's cover features a songbird and a snake resting on a tree branch and has a green, gold and black theme.

Lionsgate Entertainment, the studio behind the film adaptations of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games series, has been making significant moves of late. Recently, the studio acquired the premium cable and satellite television network Starz, aiming to amplify their content distribution and generate a larger marketing platform for their shows and films. In a recent interview with Variety, CEO Jon Feltheimer dishes on these major deals and discusses the possibility of extending The Hunger Games and Twilight franchises.

Lionsgate has been releasing new extended/deleted scenes from the first Hunger Games movie and several behind-the-scenes documentary clips from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 in promotion of the forthcoming release of the final film in the franchise on Digital HD next Tuesday, March 8, and on Blu-ray & DVD on March 22.

Last week, Lionsgate Vice Chairman - Michael Burns revealed at a recent investor conference that the film studio is thinking of making more Hunger Games films, prequels that involve arenas, more specifically. Fans have mixed opinions about this subject matter. Some don't want any more films because they think that it would just be Hollywood's way of milking the franchise and that prequels/sequels or what have you would probably just ruin the legacy of the original tetralogy. Others, however, would love to see more of Panem and the intricate story of the other characters in Suzanne Collins' tale. Director Francis Lawrence has already said in several interviews that he would only be in to direct more Hunger Games films if the story/script is from Suzanne herself.
